🌱 InnoCSA Climate Smart Farm of the Month: Statek Novotinky 🌱

We’re happy to highlight Statek Novotinky from the Central Bohemian Region, Czech Republic, as our next Climate Smart Farm of the Month!

Established in 1999, the farm faced growing concerns over soil degradation and erosion due to intensive farming practices. Recognizing the urgent need for change, Statek Novotinky embraced innovative and sustainable farming techniques to restore soil health and enhance long-term productivity.

At the heart of their transformation is the adoption of NO TILL technology, a direct seeding method that eliminates traditional plowing. This not only reduces soil disturbance but also ensures continuous soil cover with plants, boosting organic matter content and maximizing the full potential of the growing season for photosynthesis. By cutting down on excessive tillage and chemical use, the farm has taken significant steps toward restoring soil quality.

Statek Novotinky implemented several complementary measures to further improve soil conservation and resilience:

  • Strip seeding into stubble with subsoiling to reduce erosion
  • Grassing the steepest slopes to prevent runoff
  • Creating erosion control strips in vulnerable areas
  • Planting multi-species buffer zones around drainage channels, streams, and ponds to protect water bodies and support biodiversity

These innovations, along with collaborative planning, training, and expert consultation, have transformed the farm into a model of soil conservation and sustainable agriculture.

A shining example of what’s possible when farms work with nature! 🌱🚜
